How do we recruit?

In line with safer recruitment for roles involving responsibility for, or substantial access to, under 18s, all gaps in employment history must be explained, references will be followed up and all staff will undergo an Enhanced DBS check (or overseas equivalent). All staff complete online Safeguarding and Prevent courses.

We will then invite successful applicants to an interview, face-to-face, online or over the telephone. Applicants are advised to read the job description for the role they are applying for in order to best prepare for the interview. Candidates successful at interview are then offered a position in one of our centres, subject to receipt of two satisfactory references, relevant safeguarding checks, proof of identity and proof of qualifications (for academic staff).

Target English International is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK. We operate junior summer schools for international students aged 10-17 in 7 locations across the UK. Our schools are based on university or further education college campuses, all with good quality residential accommodation, teaching and leisure facilities on-site. Our summer courses offer a balanced mix between learning in the classroom and learning during activities and on excursions. We are dedicated to giving students a memorable, enjoyable and above all, safe study holiday experience.

Activity Leaders

Our staff are without doubt our most valuable asset and our students frequently say the staff are one of the best things about their study holiday. We welcome new applicants but also value our returning staff, and to both we offer an attractive package that includes:

  • Full induction with local managers on-site.  Senior staff are requested to attend our 2-day induction weekend held at the University of Hull before the start of their contract.
  • £10 a week returner’s increment (up to a maximum of 3 years)

Contracts are usually 2, 3 or 4 weeks in length depending on location, between mid-June and mid-August. Extensions up to 6 weeks are possible dependent on student numbers, staff availability and manager recommendations.

Positions Available

Centre Manager

Experienced and professional Centre Managers required to oversee the smooth running of all aspects of a busy residential summer school. This is a demanding role and requires excellent organisational and communication skills as well as the ability to manage staff and liaise effectively with Target English International’s clients and suppliers. Ideally, you will have previous management experience in a summer school environment. Centre Managers are required to attend an Induction Weekend. This post is residential.

Director of Studies

Experienced teaching professionals, qualified in line with British Council requirements, with previous junior summer school experience required to manage the effective delivery of our academic programme and to assist the Centre Manager in the day-to-day running of the centre as required. This role requires an excellent communicator who is flexible, able to manage and support a team of teachers, and has sound administration and organisational skills. Directors of Studies are required to attend an Induction Weekend. This post is residential.

Activity Manager

Well-organised, motivated team players required to manage all aspects of our activity programme including planning and preparing a wide variety of activities and excursions, leading and motivating a team of activity leaders, liaising with transport and venue suppliers and assisting the Centre Manager with the day-to-day running of the centre as required. Activity Managers are required to attend an Induction Weekend. This post is residential.

Activity Manager – Job Description

Teacher

Qualified (in line with British Council requirements) and enthusiastic EFL teachers required to teach students aged 10-17 on short summer courses. Contracts are usually for 30 contact hours per week, dependent on centre and student requirements. Where required, teachers will receive Trinity Exam preparation training. A Target English International syllabus and wide range of materials will be provided.

Activity Leader

Outgoing, motivated and dynamic activity staff required to organise and lead a variety of activities and excursions for international students aged 10-17. Activities include a variety of sports, games, talent shows, quizzes and much more. Evening and weekend sessions will be required. All successful candidates will participate in a series of online training sessions to prepare them for the role.
